’71 – 9.0/10

“Black Hawk Down” meets “Three Days of the Condor”. Jack O’Connell plays a rookie British soldier that is left behind by his unit in the hostile zone of Belfast; unarmed and disoriented he has to find a way to return to the British barricades. “ ’71” is a remarkable war thriller; the suspense never goes down and the rhythm of the film is stunning. In every turn the movie takes you by surprise and lead you to unexpected turns. O’Connell gives a terrific performance – redeeming himself of the lame “Unbroken”; it is the desperate fight of a man for survival. First time feature film director Yann Demange not only gives us an incredible film, but also a filmmaker to look forward to.
